Photo and installation: variable dimensions
Living Paper is a work from my research-creation project, Dormant Life, where I acknowledge the capacities of algae to survive and even flourish under the extreme environmental conditions brought on by climate change. Dormant Life brings together the capacity of algae to alter their sexual behaviour in times of environmental stress and remain dormant indefinitely. Combining this behaviour under laboratory conditions with material investigations in fibre-based practices occasions an emergent form of material/organic life, living paper. The co-constitution of these material/organic configurations act both as artistic and biological inquiry towards the development of a living an/archive.
