AI-generated maps: 11″x17″ posters
A.I.rchitect is a set of posters exploring the aesthetics of architectural plans using machine learning. A StyleGAN2 (on the RunwayML platform) machine learning model was trained on a large collection of architectural plans found online. The generated images were used to fabricate collages of cityscape blueprints. Subsequently, the images were printed artisanally on cotton paper using the cyanotype process. Blueprints, technical drawings and machine learning are processes that are generally thought of as purely functional and utilitarian. Their aesthetics, although familiar to us, are seldom appreciated for their beauty. This series of artworks seeks to examine their visual value and highlight their artistic nature.
